The Problem

The professor in the field of volcanology and geothermal studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Brawijaya University, has requested the creation of an interactive application for student community service's town watching activities in the Mount Semeru area. Town watching activities themselves are disaster mitigation efforts adopted from Japan, involving the identification of potential disasters and providing disaster-related education to the community.

The Solution

From the requests and issues identified, a solution emerged in the form of an application designed to streamline the town watching process. This application enables users to capture images, report incidents, receive event-related information, and access guidance on actions to take during natural disasters. This application is named "Town Watch".

The Objective

Creating a design for the Town Watch application layout that enables the exchange of information regarding natural disasters occurring in the vicinity of the community service area.

The Challenge

In the process of designing the interface and user experience for this application, there are challenges including:

  1. Extracting and understanding information from previous town watching activities by students to define required features.

  2. Crafting a user-friendly design that aligns with the needs of community service students, facilitating efficient goal achievement.

The Process

Chosen Method

The chosen method is human-centered design, considering its ability to create solutions that prioritize user needs, preferences, and experiences.

Design Solution

The Result

testing of the solution design results in a value on the usability aspects of effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction. in the effectiveness aspect, the value is 98.12%, the efficiency aspect is 93.76%, and the satisfaction aspect is 83.86%. the final result of usability testing is 91.91% with 5 problems that need to be fixed by returning to the solution design stage.
